The Italian jazz piano maestro, composer and professor Dino Massa returns to Kansas City to teach, perform, and record original music with his long-time friend, saxophonist/composer Christopher Burnett and an all-star ensemble of KC-based jazz musicians.

The Italian jazz piano maestro and composer Dino Massa returns to Kansas City to perform and record original music with his long-time friend, saxophonist/composer Christopher Burnett and an all-star ensemble of KC-based jazz musicians.

Burnett and Massa have written original music to perform in concert at Westport Coffeehouse from 7:30 pm to 9:30 pm on Wednesday (11 March) and to record in Kansas City at BRC Audio Productions during studio sessions on Thursday and Friday (12+13 March).

Massa and Burnett previously released the critically acclaimed “Echoes of Europe” with a KC Quintet augmented by woodwinds on ARC in 2017.

The core instrumentation of this ensemble comprises a sextet that includes a rhythm section of Massa on piano, Bill McKemy on bass, and Clarence Smith on drums

The frontline is comprised of three horns: Stanton Kessler on trumpet, Burnett on alto/flute, and Bill Crain playing tenor/flute

The recording session on Friday will further be augmented musically by The First City Flute Choir performing on one of the arrangements.
